  16. Changes to this policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the NoteM: Notes & Lessons app on iPad, iPhone, Mac or Android, and when you visit its website, notem.net. In short: the app has no account, no ads and no tracking, and your notebooks stay with you.

1Who we are

NoteM and this website are made by Lines4you. For any question about this policy or your data, write to [email protected].

2The app: what stays on your device

NoteM has no account and no sign-in, shows no ads, and does not track you. Your notebooks, imported files, recordings, scripts and settings are stored on your device. We run no server for them and cannot see them.

If you turn on iCloud sync, your library is stored in your own iCloud account so it reaches your other devices. Apple provides that service under its own privacy policy; we have no access to your account.

The camera, microphone and photo library are used only when you use a feature that needs them, such as recording a lesson, and what they capture is saved on your device. Speech recognition for captions and the teleprompter uses Apple’s service, on the device itself whenever your device supports it.

3The app: AI features

AI features are optional. When you use one, your request goes straight from your device to the AI provider you chose in Settings (for example Google, OpenAI or Anthropic), using your own API key, and that provider handles it under its own privacy policy. Or, where available, it runs on Apple’s on-device model and never leaves your device. We run no AI server and never receive these requests.

4The app: crash reports

On iPad, iPhone and Mac, when the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a technical report to Sentry, our crash-reporting service, so we can fix the problem: the app version, the device model and system version, and where in the code the error happened. These reports contain no personal data, no screenshots and nothing from your notebooks.

5The app on Android: Google ML Kit

On Android, NoteM uses Google ML Kit for handwriting and text recognition, translation, language detection, the document scanner, separating you from the background on camera, and Gemini Nano. These features run on your device; what you write, scan or film is not sent to us or to Google. ML Kit downloads the models it needs, and it sends Google diagnostics and usage data so Google can keep these features working: the device model and Android version, the app’s name and version, identifiers for the installation and the device, performance measurements, which features were used and their error codes, and the languages set. Google describes this in its ML Kit data disclosure. This is not advertising or tracking across apps.

6The app: purchases

Subscriptions are bought and managed through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). They handle the payment; we never receive your card or account details.

7The website: when you visit

Like every website, our server records basic technical details of each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page you asked for, the page you came from, and your browser and device type. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure, and they are kept for a limited time.

The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it against attacks and makes pages load faster. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to do this.

The site has no accounts, no sign-in and no forms. We do not ask for your name or contact details. If you email us, we use your message and address only to answer you.

8The website: cookies and your choice

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept cookies. Nothing below in “Analytics” and “Advertising” runs until you tap Accept. If you tap Reject, none of these tools load.

Your choice is saved in your own browser, so we don’t ask again on every page. You can change it at any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page, or by clearing your browser’s site data.

9The website: analytics

With your consent we use these tools to understand how people find and use the site, so we can improve it:

  • Google Analytics (Google): which pages are visited, for how long, from which country and kind of device, and how visitors arrived. We see totals and trends, not who you are.
  • Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft): how visitors click, scroll and move on a page, shown as heatmaps and anonymised session replays. Clarity hides text typed into fields by default.

10The website: advertising

When we advertise NoteM, and only with your consent, we use these tags to measure whether our ads work and to show our ads to people who visited the site:

  • Google Ads (Google)
  • Meta Pixel (Meta, for Facebook and Instagram)
  • TikTok Pixel (TikTok)

11Who else receives data

The companies named above receive the data their tools collect and process it under their own privacy policies. Some of them process data outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards the law requires, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

We do not sell your data, and we share it with no one else.

12Why we may use your data

  • Running and securing the site (server logs, Cloudflare): our legitimate interest in a working, safe website.
  • Crash reports from the app: our legitimate interest in finding and fixing errors.
  • Analytics and advertising: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

13How long data is kept

Server logs are kept for a short time and then deleted. Data in the analytics and advertising tools is kept according to each tool’s retention settings. Your cookie choice stays in your browser until you change it or clear it.

14Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU and UK GDPR or Turkey’s KVKK), you may ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to limit or object to its use, and to withdraw your consent. Write to [email protected]. You may also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

15Children

NoteM is made for teachers, students and a general audience. The app collects no personal data from anyone, children included, and the website does not knowingly collect data about children under 13.

16Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we update this page and the date at the top.
